August 2018 Update

Months are just flying by – we are already at the end of August and planning up to the end of the year (including Christmas!) but let’s focus on what we have been doing in August first!

Member events this month included:

·       Take me out (dating event)

·       Cinema

·       Peterhead Prison (Aberdeenshire)

·       Celebrate Aberdeen Parade

·       Pub dinner

We really enjoyed all of the events again this month.

Peterhead Prison was a fun afternoon out in Aberdeenshire exploring the old prison including the cells the prisoners were kept in… don’t worry we didn’t leave anyone in there!! We are enjoying trying out new places in Aberdeenshire lately… where will we be next?!

We took part in the Celebrate Aberdeen parade for the 2nd year alongside many local charities and groups. We had members and staff taking part in the parade down Union Street with our banner. Our Events Coordinator, Louise’s son came along as our cheeky monkey mascot too! It was a great day and as always, a fantastic local event celebrating all the amazing charities that are in our city. Thank you to the members who kindly joined us to proudly support dates-n-mates.

We went to Justice Mill pub for our monthly pub event – having a catch up with members and grabbing some dinner. Our pub nights are often the last event of the month and are a great way to round off another fun month!

Other activities we got involved in this month include:

Louise attended the Stay up late campaign Aberdeen meeting, planned newsletter content and upcoming events. Michelle interviewed new members and kept our membership admin updated. Laurie met with potential new volunteers, worked on our plan for volunteering and project development. Sarah has been working on some statistics and preparing member feedback for an upcoming staff development day. We are a busy team as usual!

We also met with some members for a Christmas party planning meeting gathering views from members on what they would like from the party this year. We are now taking those ideas and planning the party based on this… from venue choice to entertainment and food! We think it is important to shape the project around what our members would like. We are already looking forward to our Christmas party and its only the last day of August!!
