What is your volunteer role and what does it involve?
I’m a dates-n-mates event supporter.
It’s my job to make sure everyone is talking to everyone else. I also help to set up events and really anything else that needs doing!
Why did you decide to volunteer with dates-n-mates?
It’s important that everyone gets out and about and has a good time and can make some friends. It’s fun and it doesn’t feel like work at all!
What is the most rewarding aspect of your volunteering?
When you see people starting to talk to each other and make friends. I love the speed dating and quizzes especially because of this.
Tell us about a highlight of your volunteering?
Oh, the speed dating! I felt I really helped connect people to each other that night. I loved it and felt useful too.
How has volunteering helped you personally? What does it mean to you?
It’s a good feeling. My own wee girl has a learning difficulty and this might help me to help her make friends when she’s older.
What’s the one thing you would tell someone about volunteering with dates-n-mates?
It’s really rewarding, not just for you but for the people you help too.
